Pacific Island stopovers are allowed FOC on the Southbound journey (London to Auckland
via the USA) or £110 per stop
on the Northbound trip (Auckland to London via the USA). Choose from Fiji, Tahiti,
The Cook Islands (Raratonga), Tonga or Western Samoa (Apia).
If you pay the higher Australia fare, then you can have the option of visiting both
Australia and New Zealand. However if you only want to visit Sydney in Australia
you can pay the lower New Zealand Fare and still visit the two countries.
e.g. London - Hong Kong - Sydney - Auckland - San Francisco - London is an Auckland

Additional Stopover options
In addition to the stopovers shown above there are other stopover options possible
provided you are prepared to make your own way between certain cities - for example
Air New Zealand operate from Vancouver to New Zealand but you would need to fly

surface sector between them. The same thing applies to Shanghai. With Virgin
Atlantic you can fly into Shanghai and then make your own way to Hong Kong to carry
on to Sydney or New Zealand.
For travel between Los Angeles and San Francisco on any NZ flight a surcharge of
£55 will be added to the applicable fare.
For travel between Hong Kong and Shanghai on any KA flight a surcharge of £100
will be added to the applicable fare.
For travel between Beijing and Hong Kong on any KA flight a surcharge of £100
will be added to the applicable fare.
The places you can visit on your Virgin and Air NZ RTW special either direct
or with a surface sector are:
Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Auckland, Christchurch,
Wellington, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Osaka, Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, Adelaide, Tahiti,
Fiji, The Cook Islands, Samoa, or Tonga

Why do I need travel insurance?
Well if you break your leg in Cambodia on a scooter and you have to be flown home then that can cost £150K plus - 10 times as much in the States - so unless you've got very very rich parents (we're talking Sunday Times Rich list Top 100) then get a decent travel insurance - not one from a chemist or local butchers - use a specialist that offers a policy that provides high medical expenses, repatriation and good legal cover at the very least. You don't have to buy it through us but you'd be a village idiot not to get insurance from somewhere. If you are cost conscious or don't plan on taking much of value with you, we have negotiated rates that include and exclude cover for baggage and money from 1 month up to 12 months. We believe that the rates and cover that we offer are among the best you will find. See details here

What does ‘surface’ mean?
This means you will fly in and out of a different city or country. In other words
you will travel between them by other means; perhaps by train, bus or boat. These
surface sectors ensure that you get to see and experience more of a country - more
What tax - is it V.A.T?
The tax is airport tax, money that the airport is charging you to use its facilities.
This used to be collected at the airports, but is now payable in advance when you
purchase your ticket. There are still a few countries in which your taxes are collected
at the airport upon departure.
Recently there have been two additional charges added – Security Charges and
Fuel Surcharges - more
